Our Journey continues to Bodrum, situated on the southern Aegean coast of Turkey. This fabled coastline is where Homer’s heroes were born, where the ancient Greeks consulted their oracles, and the Romans built magnificent temples to honor their gods. Amanruya is set on a peaceful hillside, offering breathtaking views of the sea and a winding pathway leading to a sheltered pebble beach.
On the second day, we will embark on a half-day boat tour to explore the ancient sites from Greek and Roman history dotted across the Aegean coastline. For centuries, the region has been a center of traditional artisan Turkish crafts. We will visit Bodrum Castle, built in the early 15th century, which remains a medieval relic fortified with green volcanic stones and marble columns.

Continuing our Journey, we arrive in Tbilisi, Georgia, and transfer to the captivating urban sanctuary of Stamba Hotel, where modern amenities meets historic charm amidst the vibrant cityscape. This former printing press brings a “hip” stay to the Journey.
We venture beyond Tbilisi’s city limits on an enriching cultural excursion. Our day begins with a scenic drive to the 6th-century Jvari Monastery, perched atop a cliff overlooking the confluence of the Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers. We then explore the historic city of Mtskheta, visiting the sacred Svetitskhoveli, home to the Robe of Christ. After our cultural exploration, we indulge in a delightful wine tasting and lunch at Chateau Mukhrani, Georgia’s most prominent winery.
Continuing our adventure, we dedicate a full day to exploring Tbilisi’s rich history, vibrant culture, and captivating architecture. In the Old Town, we stroll through cobbled streets, marveling at iconic Georgian houses and the ancient Anchiskhati Basilica, before ascending Narikala Fortress for a panoramic view. After lunch, choose between an optional visit to the National Museum of Georgia or leisure time before our evening farewell dinner atop Mtatsminda hill, where fine Georgian wines accompany our meal.

We further our Journey with a visit to Yerevan, Armenia. After a brief flight from Tbilisi, we’ll spend the afternoon exploring the Cascade Complex, an impressive limestone stairway featuring art galleries and a modern art garden. Our day concludes with an Armenian brandy tasting, offering us a delightful introduction to the local culture.
The next day, our exploration extends to the outskirts of Yerevan. We will visit the Garni Pagan Temple, dating back to the first century AD and the only temple of its kind in the region, symbolizing pre-Christian Armenia. Nearby, we will marvel at the unique Symphony of Stones, basalt columns formed from lava flows that reach up to 50 meters high.
We’ll then enjoy a presentation on the making and tasting of Armenian lavash, a soft, unleavened flatbread baked in a traditional ground oven called a Toner. Savor the freshly baked lavash with homemade cheese and herbs, followed by a delicious country-style lunch.
After lunch, we will tour the UNESCO World Heritage site of Geghard Monastery, dating from the fourth century AD and carved into the mountainside. Our visit will be highlighted by a live performance of medieval Armenian Gregorian spiritual chants by a local choir in one of the cave chambers of Geghard.

Our time promises a full-day exploration of Almaty’s cultural riches, starting with a visit to Panfilovets’ Park to pay homage to the WWII infantry unit. We’ll marvel at the towering Ascension Cathedral, peruse the vibrant Zelyony Green Bazaar, and delve into history at the State Museum. Our Journey continues to the picturesque Big Almaty Gorge, where we’ll encounter rare birds of prey at the Sunkar Falconry Center and savor a traditional Kazakh lunch in a National yurt. The afternoon offers leisure time to indulge in the hotel’s spa facilities or to explore the surrounding area.

Continuing our adventure, we will arrive in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, and transfer to the Samarkand Regency Amir Temur. In the afternoon, we will head to the center of Samarkand to explore the renowned Registan Square, a true architectural marvel showcasing some of Central Asia’s most breathtaking historical monuments. Surrounded by mosques and madrasas adorned with intricate tiles and vibrant blue domes, the square will exude traditional charm. We will cap off the day with a delightful welcome dinner at a local restaurant.
Our exploration of Samarkand continues with a sightseeing tour of its majestic monuments. We will visit the Ulugh Bek Observatory, built by the esteemed astronomer Ulugh Bek, followed by Shah-i-Zinda, an impressive collection of 14th-century mausoleums exhibiting exquisite craftsmanship. A pilaf lunch will await us at a local caravanserai to refuel for the day’s adventures.
In Samarkand, we will visit a local bakery in the winding alleys of the Old Town, where we will observe the crafting of the famous local round bread. Next, we will pay our respects at the Gur-Emir Mausoleum, the resting place of Tamerlane, before exploring the Bibi-Khanum Mosque and the bustling Siab Market. Our next stop is Baku, Azerbaijan. Straddling the Middle East, Europe, and Asia, the enigmatic capital of Azerbaijan sits on the coast of the opal-blue waters of the Caspian Sea, with the Caucasus Mountains to the west. Upon arrival, we will transfer to the beaux-arts-style Four Seasons Hotel perched along the waterfront in the heart of central Baku. After dinner, we will head to the Martyrs’ Alley above the city to enjoy a unique night panoramic view of the illuminated city and the Flame Towers.
The next morning, we will explore Icheri Sheher, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with historical buildings and narrow lanes and one of the Middle East’s oldest continuously inhabited areas. We’ll visit the Museum Palace of Shirvanshahs and savor tandir bread. Our experience continues at the iconic Maiden Tower, also a UNESCO Heritage site. Later, we’ll discover the art of crafting traditional silk scarves and have lunch at a local restaurant. Following that, we will visit the modern Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center with an impressive antique car collection. In the early evening, at the Baku Caviar Boutique, we will enjoy a unique tasting of Caspian black caviar paired with champagne. We will enjoy an Azerbaijan farewell with dinner at a local 18th-century caravansary offering dishes like traditional Shah pilaf while enjoying a folk show with live “Mugham” music, an UNESCO-recognized intangible heritage.
The following day, we head south to Gobustan National Park, home to ancient petroglyphs. After lunch and a private tour at Surakhani Ship Museum, located on a former oil tanker, the afternoon is free for leisure, allowing time to reflect on the rich experiences of our Azerbaijani adventure.

As we start our return home, we will launch for our over-water crossing to Iceland.
Upon arrival, transfer to the Apotek Hotel, where will enjoy a central location to explore downtown Reykjavik.
The following morning, we bid farewell and begin our individual paths back home as our Journey comes to an end. En route, we’ll make two technical stops in Nuuk, Greenland and Goose Bay, Canada to refuel before continuing onwards to Bangor, Maine, to clear US Customs. For those based on the west coast of the United States, an alternate stop to clear US customs can be arranged.
Afterward, we will all go our separate ways home.
